Then he built something that outlasted it.
Paul Bond was born in Carlsbad, New Mexico in 1915. By 14, he was apprenticing with a bootmaker. By his teens, he was breaking broncs for the U.S. Cavalry. In 1946 he bought into an El Paso boot company. In 1957, he made his most important move - to nogales, Arizona, where the finest craftsmen in the trade lived and worked.
He opened a shop that the whole world would eventually find. Not because he advertised. Because when you build the most honest boot in existence, word travels on its own.

Could Have Done It.
Director John Huston needed Pual Newman’s boots to age a man on screen. Paul Bond built six pairs - each with a progressively shorter heel. Three inches at the opening of the film. One inch at the close. A man who arrives powerful and ends up down by the years - told entirely through leather.
